The whole ethos of the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards is the celebration of an industry working in unison. This award is specifically aimed at recognising community collaboration. The judges will be looking for initiatives and projects where community groups and businesses have worked together to improve the way their destination caters for visitors. Examples could include: improving appearance, infrastructure, streetscaping, footpaths, quality of welcome, things to see & do, events, festivals etc.

Entries are invited from towns, villages or communities within Highland area. This can include discrete sections of a town/city, eg town centre partnership, harbour users’ group etc.

Outline your project and describe how it has helped your destination cater better for its visitors.
Applicants should list project partners and demonstrate how they brought together businesses, individuals and where appropriate, public agencies to deliver the project.
Is there evidence of community groups? And evidence of community and business working together?
What were the key objectives at the outset of your project?
Clear evidence of actions to improve the visitors’ experience?
How far have you achieved the objectives? The more quantitative and firm the information, the easier it will be for judges to award marks (If a project is ongoing over a period of years, a measurable progress report is acceptable.)
